Be Your Own Editor

Hi, I’m Lisa. I’ve been working with writers for all of my adult life in one way or another, from tutoring young thesis writers in need of help in college, to working as a literary agent, to my current job as a production editor at one of the most prestigious literary publishing houses in New York. (Most of you don’t know what a production editor does: we oversee the copyediting and proofreading of books, a thankless job perfect for anal-retentive types such as me.)

I believe that good writing and marketable writing aren’t mutually exclusive, and I will try to use this site to help you to fulfill your creative vision—AND to get that “vision” into Barnes & Noble.

Since excessive wordiness is my biggest pet peeve among new writers, I’ll shut up. Having said that, Faulkner was pretty damn flowery, and it worked for him. Then again, he was Faulkner. I hope that, whatever your style of writing and of life, visiting this site helps you bring it closer to perfection.
